As a young girl she watched as her grandmother and her father raised their families in the friendly atmosphere of their country store, Buehler’s Market in St. Leonard. She says that this experience taught her the fundamentals of customer service. “While I was in college, I lived just outside of Washington, but I missed the small town feel of Calvert County, ” says Maria. So she returned to purchase the country store from her Grandmother’s estate 3 years ago.

Maria keeps Buehler’s Market open for business 7 days a week, 365 days a year. As a business owner, she has witnessed the plight of the homeless and underprivileged in our community, helping out whenever she can. “ I am running for Queen of Mardi Gras because its an opportunity for me to give back.” Maria’s father, Pat Buehler, was also committed to public service, as a former Calvert County Commissioner and trustee to the Koenig Charitable Trust. “My goal is to live my dad’s life, to be really involved in the community.” Maria has organized many fundraising events, including wine tastings at the Buehler's Market Wine Store, and collecting tips as a guest server at Stoney's Seafood House and Jake & Al's Chophouse.
